Right on! I have been processing this very topic and looking for the Lord to show us how we can teach it in our homes and in our church. I would submit two more comparisons:

1. Self-centered vs. God-centered
2. Living FOR acceptance & worth vs. Living FROM acceptance & worth.

I think I feel my own blog post coming on... I will definitely be linking to this! Thanks so much!

Thank you for speaking today at FBC LR. It was eye-opening to find out just how much I show up on the left side as opposed to the grace side. Clearly, I still have much to work on.

absolutely, have seen many leave the "evangicical " church here, because just plain couldnt live up to what was being presented to us here as right way to live. this includes me. have now, just gone back to reading "my" way to proceed with God, Jesus, from Bible. I live in a community, ( population 970 ) and isnt anywhere else to go to church here. sooo, yes, pastors need to be preaching/teaching a "different way to have relatiuonship with Jesus/God, to be able to even have proper relationship in our familys, & with all those we come in contact with.

This reminds me of the verse that says, "Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, so walk in Him." How did we receive Him? By grace, through faith, which is how He wants us to daily walk in Him. The same faith (in response to His grace) that said "I cannot do this on my own. I desperately need your grace" is the faith by which we can live moment by moment.

That amazing grace that saved still saves still causes these blind eyes to see
And still is a very sweet sound
To me!

Thank you ...Thank you...Thank you...and God Bless you....You are so right...I was raised under this style of legalism and religious mind control and still struggle with these ideas with both my mother and mother-in-law...I remember these ideas being revealed to me in my youth while I was under scrutiny of my mom and can look back now and see how it sort of sabotaged many things that were blossoming in my youth...I believe God used you and your ministry to reveal the underlying source for years of unforgiveness, resentfullness, and confusion that I have struggled with between my mother and I, my relationship with organized religion, and God himself.....now that I have the understanding of the motive as to why I was so harshly judged and felt so restricted and dead spiritually....Grace is a gift, not something we earn through works...Jesus should be used to set people free, not to put them back into bondage of carnal works which are useless to God......I can now forgive my mother, now that it is very clear what was really going on.....Thank You and God Bless YOu

@Kelly-Jo- Thanks for reading and weighing in. Just wanted to point out a very important distinction...The titles on the list are Obedience BASED vs. Grace BASED, not obedience vs. grace. And, you will notice that the last thing on the Grace based side of the chart says, "Leads to organic obedience." The natural byproduct of approaching our relationship with God from a firm understanding of His grace, is that we in turn lead an obedient life. But when we have an obedience-based relationship with God, we often miss the message of His grace and end up working over time to please Him. It's an easy trap to fall into, because we all want to obey God, but if that it our target rather than a natural outcropping of living under His grace, then we run the risk of putting ourselves, and others, on a performance basis.

Lists aren't too bad-I just don't agree with the titles-obedience vs. grace.
My faith builds in my a desire to be obedient to Christ and His word and will for my life. Your obedience list may better be called something along the line of "works-based" or something. Using the term obedience in this way would cause me to NOT want to be obedient. I am not looking for fire insurance. I have faith based on grace, not works- and out of my love I desire to be obedient.
