resourceofthemonth - may

This year is the 30th anniversary of Family Matters. That’s right folks! We’ve been at this thing for three decades now! We have met so many wonderful people, partnered with some great ministries like Focus on the Family and Family Life, and God has used our efforts to touch the lives of countless families with the message of His grace. Praise the Lord!! One of the ways we would like to celebrate what God has done in us and through us is to highlight one resource a month as a way to familiarize you with what Family Matters has to offer in order to minister to you better.

This month’s resource highlight is Grace Based Parenting by Dr. Tim Kimmel.

Too much of today’s Christian parenting is based on fear: fear of the world . . . fear of liberal culture . . . fear of other parents’ and the church”s opinions. Best-selling author Dr. Tim Kimmel says fear, “is an excellent way to wreck your kids.”

Grace-based parenting, on the other hand, relies on God’s love, replicates His forgiveness and commitment to His children, and displaces fear as a motivator for every behavior.

Grace-Based Parenting will help you:

  • Find the balance point in a world of extremes
  • Keep from investing your energies in a long list of things that don’t matter
  • Make parenting more fun
  • Liberate your children emotionally and spiritually
  • Prepare your whole family for a lifetime of healthy choices and relationships-with God and with each other

I would love to win a copy of this book because I’m struggling with this very concept right now with my 14 year old daughter. In a nutshell, I’m trying to find where grace and parenting a 14 year old intersect :) I believe this book would provide me with the wisdom and encouragement I’m seeking not only for our 14 year old, but also with our 8 year old boy who is quickly growing into a young man and absorbing so much of the outside world.

    Thank you for this opportunity!

I would love to read this because I have 6 kids, 2 are grown but still young and in need of grace based parenting. My parenting has evolved over the years and I am far more interested in listening, humbling myself and being available for my kids. They are some of the best kids in the world and I just want to be better and do better with the time and energy I have. God is working with me to help me as I struggle with second guessing, doubts, and worries as a parent. It’s been a long ride, bu I have 4 still with me and want to enjoy and give them the joy of a loving and supportive parent.

  53. We are adopting 8 & 10 year old brothers out of US foster care. They have an abuse and neglect background and have been in foster care for more than half their lives. We want to build them back up as only Christ through us can. This seems like the perfect book to help us do that.
