resourceofthemonth - home grown heroes

This year is the 30th anniversary of Family Matters. That’s right folks! We’ve been at this thing for three decades now! We have met so many wonderful people, partnered with some great ministries like Focus on the Family and Family Life, and God has used our efforts to touch the lives of countless families with the message of His grace. Praise the Lord!! One of the ways we would like to celebrate what God has done in us and through us is to highlight one resource a month as a way to familiarize you with what Family Matters has to offer in order to minister to you better.

This month’s resource highlight is Home Grown Heroes. Here’s a little about the book…

How will you teach your children courage? They need it. You sense that already. The choices your kids face are much tougher than the ones you wrestled with–the evil more flagrant, society more corrupt, the pressure to conform more intense. At the outside, you have about fifteen years to prepare them, maybe less. They’ll need courage or frankly, they may not make it. Without a plan, you won’t either. Through inspiring stories, practical teaching and hefty doses of common sense, Tim Kimmel charts a course your family can follow. No, it won’t happen the same way in every home. But your investment in preparation will pay off when the heat’s on. It’s the most strategic investment you may ever make. Includes questions for small group study.

If you’re eager to get your hands on a copy of this amazing resource, we have some great news for you! We want our Family Matters Blog readers to have a chance to win a copy of Home Grown Heroes!

I have two wonderful boys. They are 3&4 and are very different in personality. One is detailed, caring, affectionate and intellectual, while my youngest is strong willed, cuddly, global and does everything with gusto. Sometimes I worry about how they will handle situations when I am not there to intervene, but I know that with prayer and guidance they will be ok. However, I would love to read this book to give me some better ideas on how to instill courage when they do face things that are difficult and scary. Our boys are adopted and may have some different things to face when they are older. I want them to confident in who they are and in the knowledge that God loves them and that we do too,

Thank you so much for your ministry, FM! I would love a copy of this book to give to my husband. Since our now 5 year old daughter has been a baby my husband has specifically prayed that she would have courage to follow Christ in faith in the face of the myriad of challenges she’ll face in the world. Recently she was baptized at our church and publicly declared her faith in Christ. She has also declared that she will always follow Jesus, “No matter what!”. It is our prayer her faith and courage would continue to grow as she matures and that God would equip us to bless our girl in her faith. Thank you!

I’d like a copy of the book because I could use some ideas on helping my child develop courage. That way when uncertain times or even scary times come, there won’t be a desire to just give up. I can also see this useful for facing peer pressure and having the courage to do the right thing even though there will likely be ridicule.
